If visiting Europe feels like a dream that’s always just a little out of reach, you’re not alone. For a lot of people, Europe feels complicated — too many countries, too much planning, not enough time, not enough money.

But here’s the truth: Europe doesn’t need to be complicated to be magical.

You don’t need a perfectly planned itinerary, unlimited vacation days, or a luxury budget. What you do need is a simple starting point and the confidence to take the first step.

This guide breaks down what actually makes a Europe trip work — especially if it’s your first time.

Start Small: Pick One Region, Not Ten Countries

One of the biggest mistakes first-time travelers make is trying to see everything at once.

Europe rewards slow travel. Staying in one region allows you to:
• Reduce travel stress
• Save money
• Actually experience places instead of rushing through them

Instead of hopping across the continent, focus on areas that naturally connect.

Good first-time regions include:
• Northern Italy
• Bavaria & Austria
• France’s Alsace region
• Spain (Barcelona + nearby towns)
• Germany (a few cities connected by train)

You’ll see more by doing less.

Travel Slower Than You Think You Should

It’s tempting to pack every day full — especially when you’re crossing an ocean to get there. But Europe shines in the in-between moments.

Slow travel looks like:
• One or two activities per day
• Long meals instead of rushed ones
• Wandering neighborhoods without a plan
• Sitting at cafés and people-watching

These moments often become the memories you talk about most.

Use Trains (They’re Part of the Experience)

Train travel in Europe isn’t just transportation — it’s part of the trip.

Why trains work so well:
• City-center to city-center travel
• No baggage fees
• Scenic routes
• Less stress than airports

For first-time travelers, trains remove a huge layer of anxiety and add a lot of charm.

Stay Walkable, Not Fancy

You don’t need luxury hotels to have an incredible trip.

What matters more than amenities:
• Location
• Walkability
• Access to cafés, bakeries, and local streets

Staying in a walkable neighborhood means you can:
• Step outside and explore immediately
• Return easily for breaks
• Feel more connected to daily life

Simple, comfortable, and well-located always wins.

Build the Trip Around Food, Markets & Neighborhoods

Europe is best experienced through everyday life.

Instead of focusing only on major landmarks, prioritize:
• Local food markets
• Neighborhood bakeries
• Casual restaurants
• Evening walks through old towns

These experiences cost less, feel more authentic, and slow the trip down naturally.

Europe Doesn’t Need to Be Perfect to Be Incredible

Your first Europe trip doesn’t need to be flawless.
You don’t need to “do it right.”
You just need to go.

Some days will be busy. Some plans will change. Some places will surprise you. That’s part of what makes Europe unforgettable.

Confidence comes after you start planning — not before.

A Simple Way to Start Planning

If Europe feels overwhelming, start with just these steps:

Pick one region

Choose 2–3 base cities

Check train connections

Find walkable accommodations

Leave space for wandering

That’s it. You don’t need more than that to begin.

Final Thoughts

Europe isn’t reserved for expert travelers or people with unlimited time and money. It’s for curious travelers willing to slow down, explore intentionally, and trust that the experience will come together.

If Europe has been sitting on your bucket list for years, this is your sign that it’s more doable than you think.

10-Day Albania and Corfu Itinerary: Beaches, History, Hidden Gems & How to Make It Happen

Meta Description: Planning a 10-day Albania and Corfu itinerary? Discover turquoise beaches, UNESCO towns, and hidden gems with our complete budget-friendly guide — including where to stay, costs, and travel tips.

Focus Keyphrase: Albania and Corfu itinerary

Slug: albania-and-corfu-itinerary

Dreaming of turquoise waters, UNESCO towns, and an affordable European adventure? This 10-day Albania and Corfu itinerary was honestly one of our favorite trips ever — and it surprised us in the best possible way. From jaw-dropping Albanian coastlines to the Greek island magic of Corfu, this route gives you two completely different countries, incredible food, and bucket-list beaches without breaking the bank.

Whether you’re planning your first trip to Albania or looking for a unique Greece alternative, this guide covers everything you need: where to stay, how to get around, what to budget, and all the hidden gems in between. Here’s exactly how to make it happen.

Quick Look: Our 10-Day Albania and Corfu Itinerary

Day 1–2: Tirana, Albania

Day 3–5: Ksamil (with day trips to Gjirokastër & The Blue Eye)

Day 6–8: Corfu, Greece

Day 9–10: Scenic drive back to Tirana

Travel Tip: We flew into Tirana Airport (TIA) from Memmingen, Germany and rented a car for the entire trip. Having a car gave us total freedom to explore Albania at our own pace and catch the ferry to Corfu. Just make sure to check your rental company’s border crossing and ferry policies before you go.

Day 1–2: Tirana – Albania’s Lively and Colorful Capital

First up on this Albania and Corfu itinerary is Tirana, and honestly it’s a city that will catch you completely off guard. Additionally, it’s more vibrant, walkable, and welcoming than most people expect.

Where we stayed: Doanesia Premium Hotel & Spa

Top Things to Do in Tirana

Skanderbeg Square — The heart of the city and a great place to get your bearings

National History Museum — Essential for understanding Albania’s fascinating and complex history

Bunk’Art 2 — A Cold War-era nuclear bunker turned museum. Furthermore, it’s one of the most unique museum experiences in Europe

Dajti Ekspres Cable Car — Take this for epic panoramic views over the city and surrounding mountains

Travel Tip: Parking in Tirana can be tricky. As a result, we recommend looking for hotels with dedicated parking or leaving your car and exploring on foot. The city center is very walkable.

Day 3–5: Ksamil – Albania’s Most Beautiful Beach Town

After Tirana, head south to Ksamil — and prepare to have your jaw drop. In addition to being stunning, it’s incredibly affordable compared to similar beaches in Greece or Croatia. This stretch of Albanian Riviera is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever visited.

Where we stayed: EMAR Hotel Ksamil

Best Beaches in Ksamil

Lori Beach — Calm, clear water and easy parking nearby

Ksamil Beach 9 — A local favorite with great facilities

Pasqyra Beach (Mirror Beach) — Named for its glass-like water. Moreover, it’s one of the most photogenic spots on the entire Albanian Riviera

Day Trips from Ksamil

The Blue Eye (Syri i Kaltër)

This natural spring is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. The water is a deep, vivid blue and the surrounding forest makes it feel magical. Furthermore, they have a lovely area to grab a snack or a full meal — with surprisingly nice bathrooms! Go early to beat the crowds and give yourself plenty of time to explore.

Gjirokastër

This UNESCO-listed Ottoman town is absolutely worth the drive. Additionally, the hilltop castle, cobbled alleys, and traditional stone houses give it a completely unique character. If you love hidden gems with real history and personality, Gjirokastër should not be missed.

Travel Tip: The drive from Tirana to Ksamil takes about 4–5 hours with stops. Pack snacks, download offline maps, and be prepared for some winding mountain roads — however, the scenery makes every curve completely worth it.

Day 6–8: Corfu – Where Greek Island Dreams Come True

Next up on our Albania and Corfu itinerary is the island of Corfu — and it delivers everything you’d hope for from a Greek island. First, the ferry crossing from Sarandë to Corfu Town takes only 30–70 minutes. It’s one of the easiest border crossings you’ll ever make.

Where we stayed: Waves Apartments Harmony Glyfada Corfu

Best Beaches in Corfu

Paleokastritsa — Stunning bay views plus a clifftop monastery that’s worth the climb

Canal d’Amour in Sidari — Unique sandstone rock formations and calm turquoise water

Glyfada Beach — A long sandy stretch that’s perfect for a relaxed beach day

Must-See Sights in Corfu

Achilleion Palace — Built for Empress Elisabeth of Austria, the gardens and views are breathtaking

Corfu Old Town — A UNESCO World Heritage Site with Venetian architecture, narrow lanes, and fantastic restaurants

Mon Repos Palace — A peaceful, lesser-known gem that most tourists skip

Where to Eat in Corfu

The Venetian Well — A romantic spot in a beautiful courtyard in Corfu Town

Avli — Excellent traditional Greek cuisine in a gorgeous garden setting

Ferry Tip: Take the ferry from Sarandë, Albania to Corfu Town. It runs frequently throughout the day and takes approximately 30–70 minutes depending on the service. Furthermore, it’s very affordable — around $20–30 per person one way.

Day 9–10: Scenic Drive Back to Tirana

Finally, the last leg of this Albania and Corfu itinerary takes you back north through some of Albania’s most beautiful coastal scenery. Additionally, this drive gives you a chance to stop at a few more hidden gems before your flight home.

Scenic Stops on the Drive North

Himarë Beach — A quieter, less touristy beach town with a lovely old village above it

Porto Palermo Castle — A dramatic Ottoman castle on a small peninsula jutting into a blue bay. Moreover, the views from here are absolutely stunning

Spend your final night in Tirana, relax, enjoy one last Albanian meal, and prepare for an early morning flight home.

How to Make This Albania and Corfu Itinerary Work

Flights

We flew in and out of Tirana Airport (TIA). As a result of Albania’s growing popularity, more budget airlines now serve Tirana from major European hubs. Additionally, you can fly into Corfu Airport (CFU) if you prefer to do the itinerary in reverse.

Getting Around

Renting a car in Albania is absolutely the best way to experience this itinerary. In addition to giving you total flexibility, it allows you to reach beaches and day trips that would be difficult by public transport. Just make sure to check your rental company’s policy on ferry crossings and border travel before booking.

Budget Breakdown

One of the best things about this Albania and Corfu itinerary is how affordable it is compared to other European destinations:

Expense

Estimated Cost

Flights

$100–$200 roundtrip

Accommodation

$50–$100 per night

Car rental

$30–$40 per day

Food

$10–$20 per person per meal

Ferry (Sarandë to Corfu)

$20–$30 per person one way

Money-saving tip: Albania is significantly cheaper than Greece for food and accommodation. As a result, you can easily balance your budget by spending more freely in Albania and being a little more selective in Corfu.

What to Pack for This Itinerary

Swimsuits and cover-ups (you will need multiple)

High SPF sunscreen — UV levels are strong even in spring

Comfortable walking shoes for castles, cobblestones, and hiking trails

A light rain jacket or travel umbrella, especially if visiting in April

Portable charger and European adapter plugs

An offline maps app — cell service can be spotty in remote areas

Why You’ll Absolutely Love This Trip

This Albania and Corfu itinerary offers something genuinely rare: two countries with totally different personalities, both spectacular, both affordable, and both deeply underrated. Furthermore, Albania surprised us more than almost anywhere we’ve ever traveled — the people are warm, the food is incredible, and the scenery is world-class without the crowds.

Additionally, combining Albania with Corfu means you get the best of both worlds. You get raw, unspoiled beauty in Albania and classic Greek island charm in Corfu — all within 10 days and without a crazy budget.

If you’re looking for an affordable European adventure with turquoise water, rich history, and family-friendly experiences, this is the trip for you. It’s one we still talk about constantly — and one we’d do all over again in a heartbeat.
